FC 2009.02a seems to work fine, but it won't save my settings. Which privileges do I have to grant?

Do you want FC to read the INI file from its install directory? That causes conflicts with User Access Control because Windows wants all INIs to be in the user directory. There may be two INIs, one that is read and a different one that is written to.

I don't know every detail about Windows7, I'm an old fogey with Vista

My problem is this:
When I run fc, I would like to change the language and the icons on the separator. I can do that easily, but when I quit fc and start it again, all settings are lost.

Any ideas?

Do you save them? Extras>Save settings or Extras>Settings>General>Auto save settings?

When trying to save, fc tells me that it cannot save in the program folder. As far as I know, win7 would never allow .ini-files to be stored there. Can I redirect the path?

Run freecommander as admin and change the option to store the ini file in the users folder:

- Right click Freecommander.exe and select Run As > Administrator.
- Go to EXTRAS > SETTINGS > Start program > Config file
- Change to option "specific for user - Application Data folder"
- Save settings and exit FC.

Don't ask me how I did it, but now it works, even with restricted user rights!!! Great program, thanks!

Just for the record, I was running FC in Win7 today, in someone else's computer. To avoid problems and to keep my personal toolkit segregated, I copied my portable installation off a USB stick into a new directory called "programs2". I made sure the INI permissions were okay, and everything was fine.

OT side note -- no nags when copying files in 7. I liked that.

Now that's funny - I can't change any settings anymore!

Ok: now I changed the user permissions for the .ini file and now it really seems to work. Thanks anyway!
