I just noticed that Krusader (file manager in KDE, Linux) has a nice feature. When you define keyboard shortcuts, you have a search box. Type for example "tab" and you'll get a list like:
"Next tab"
"Previous tab"
"Close current tab"
"Open new tab"

I find this feature very cool, as the keyboard shortcuts list is very long, sometimes I forget where is a specific option and what's the name for it

I will post a bit later a screenshot when I'll switch to Linux

I have requested such a feature also for the settings dialog, it would be useful to quickly find option you want to change, especially in programs with so many options like FC.

Search or quick filter for keyboard shortcuts would indeed be very helpful. Add my vote! I've spent a lot of time searching up and down the Define Shortcuts dialog -- rather ironic considering that the end goal is to save time with the customization.

A sort-of helper, is to click the "Shortcuts List" button in bottom left corner of the Define Shortcuts dialog, this will generate a text file that you can use to run a word search.

This can be helpful to find the position in the list of the command you are seeking.


I agree, a filter/search in the dialog would be extremely helpful.

A little side-tip that's sort of on-topic -- and probably obvious to most.
To find what a key is currently assigned to, while in the Define shortcuts dialog:

• Press that key while focus is in the "New Shortcut" field.
  If there's something assigned to it, it will then be listed below that field, or "Not Assigned" otherwise.

PS. Make sure you don't accidentally assign that key!
