Help File

#1 Post by Neil » 25.07.2009, 16:37

I tried usinf FC help files but it said that it could not find it and directed me to the web site. I then downloaded and moved the unzipped file to the install folder.

Now when I try to use the help the help file comes up and the left pane shows the normal content the right pane says "navigation to web page was cancelled" "When you can try: Retype the address"

I would apprecate your advice.

Also, is there a way to expand all of the folders at one time rather than expanding each one at a time?

This is a problem with Internet Explorer / Windows security settings. I don't remember the stupid details. Help files that are installed with stuff that Windows knows are automatically okayed. Things you add aren't. You have to wade through some IE settings to allow downloaded stuff to function.

You need to right click on the .chm file and select properties. Then click the unblock button. This tells windows to trust the file. For a more detailed explanation perform a Google search on the following:
"Problems with opening CHM Help files from Network or Internet" you should find a hit for Rick Strahl's Web Log. I'd post a link, but the bloody forum software does not allow me until I have made two posts!

Read more at freecommander FAQ (http://www.freecommander.com/fc_faq_en.htm)

Look at "help file".

Help file

the comment from pjaikins was the most helpful. As soon as I unblocked the chm help file (downloaded and unpacked help file in the FC program folder), I had help available. Thanks.
