Search Office 2007 files?

I am a new user, so this might be "pilot error"..
I am trying to use the Search feature to find files that contain certain text, and I am not able to get it to return Word 2007 files (with the .docx extension). It seems able to find older word docs fine.
Is this a limitation of search, or am I doing something wrong, or am I just asking too much of the search feature and I should stick to windows search?
