Ghost folders causing "Not Responding"
Posted: 30.04.2026, 03:20
I have 37 Ghost folders listed in 'This PC' and when clicking 'This PC' it hangs for some time with the 'Not Responding' message in the Title. When opening the program it hangs for some time before I can do anything.
What I have found:
I can reproduce this every time I open Free Commander by Clicking 'This PC', sometimes it opens fine, but clicking the up icon (Computer with .. top of list) then This PC to reopen the folder list it hangs. When it does open there are 12 - 37 file folder Icons. Clicking on the folder gives error "Operation Failed The Parameter is incorrect", I cannot delete it either. These folders do not exist in any other File manager.
If I delete the FreeCommander.ini file it works fine. If I run Tools/Start New Instance All is fine. Once it finishes 'Finding' the ghost folders it works fine.
Bottom line is it is unusable for minutes on startup unless I set it not to save settings on exit every time I run it. Of course none of my settings are saved then.
I did have problems with Cryptonator hanging when trying to decrypt a network vault, and I did edit the registry to get my library folders back from Onedrive before this started.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled as well.
I can't post a pic in the forum
Thank You
Gary
