Color coding of files

#1 Post by CabbageTree » 13.11.2024, 11:18

Hi!

A colour coding feature would be great. I don't mean just a selection, but really adding a colour tag to the file or folder that would be retained even if you quit and restart FC.

Take care & thanks!

You "basically" can already, using "Color by file type" in:
Under Settings -- wrote:Settings -> View -> File/Folder list -> Items color (tab) -> Color by file type
It will only color the file name text color, not the background (unfortunately. I wish it would - new request!)
It will retain it if you restart.
It won't be folder-specific, but it should be suitable based on the unique filenames you've shown.
It's not as convenient as you'd like.

To color tag a file name:
  • Go to "Color by file type" under Settings (shown above)
  • Add a new entry: click on the Plus icon and choose "Specify file extensions..." (This menu caption is misleading since it also handles file names)
  • Type in (or paste) your full filename
  • Choose a color.
  • Apply/Close settings.
  • Save Settings (to retain after restart)
I already use this method for special file names and directory names I have created in multiple folders.
