No problem here on Windows 11.
It works "as Windows preview". Check your configuration and add the extension .webp to the list of "as Windows preview".

Tested again - it works "as Image" too.

It works good here, also with default settings, Windows 10.
Make sure, that "webp" is in the field for "as Image" in tab General in Viewer Settings.
