If I switch to Plan View mode and then grab apparently any kind of media file and drag it over window of Media Player Classic for the purpose of releasing it so that it would be loaded into it - it does not happen
But a load up does happen if:
● I drop the very same files from the window of the Search feature
● I drop the very same files dragged from a Panel in Plain View to VLC or Winamp
● I drop e.g. a TXT file dragged from a Panel in Plain View to portable Notepad2 or installed Notepad++
● I simply double left click or press enter on a single file which when using Plain View
I use FreeCommander XE 2023 Build 885 64-bit Donor Portable and Build 880 32-bit public on Windows 10 Enterprise 20H2 19042.746 x64 - but this is most likely a fault of newly installed MPC-HC 2.0.0.16 from K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 17.4.5 Mega. I can lend credence to this theory after I restore my previous version of the system on which an older MPC is installed, but it will not happen soon; and I can also ask around on forum of this video player. But then again: why would dragging and dropping from Search window work but from a plained-view Panel not?not?

Re: Unable to drop files to Media Player Classic when dragging from Plain View
I can confirm the problem with FC.
Its not a problem with the MPC-HC !
I have the K-Lite Standard and drag and drop to the player works fine
from Explorer , Total Commander and XYplorer.
Only FC has a problem,
the player starts to play the dropped item after I click once inside of it after the drop.

Re: Unable to drop files to Media Player Classic when dragging from Plain View
Confirmed, more info:
- drag&drop file from plain view to program window MPC-HC
- drag&drop file from file container, even if plan view is not used, to program window MPC-HC
- drag&drop file from plain view to program window MPC-BE (error dialog shown "Encountered an improper argument)
- drag&drop file from file container, even if plan view is not used, to program window MPC-BE (error dialog shown "Encountered an improper argument)
Workaround, drag&drop file to program desktop shortcut or to FC favorite tools item icon works good, in both cases.
EDIT: Workaround #2, disable the option "Use blocking transfer" in Settings > File/Folder operations > Drag&Drop, then it works good also after drag&drop to program window, in all cases.
EDIT2: It's strange, that holding Ctrl to don't use blocking transfer if it's enabled in settings does not work, even if the same icon is shown.
FC 885-2, MPC-HC v 2.0.0.25 64-bit, nightly, MPC-BE v1.5.6.5943 beta 64-bit, Windows 10 21H1 64-bit.

Re: Unable to drop files to Media Player Classic when dragging from Plain View
Yes, unchecking
Settings > File/Folder operations > Drag&Drop > Use blocking transfer [...]
seems to have fixed that. But the drawback is that now my items are copied instead of moved when dragged to some other folder - so I cannot really use it
And in regards to holding down CTRL when dragging, I do not see a difference- i.e. for MPC HC what works is only this unchecking from above
All in all, considering other players behavior, its a bug of FC, right?

Re: Unable to drop files to Media Player Classic when dragging from Plain View
Are you sure? Is the option above - "Always perform copy.." disabled? If not, it should always move the item within the same drive, it just copy if it's another drive, it should work the same with the blocking transfer enabled or disabled.
Yes, I just wrote the same above.
Re: Unable to drop files to Media Player Classic when dragging from Plain View
So there is a difference... but how is a user suppose to know about this rule?
Such duality is plain ridiculous
I wasn't sure, so I wrote what I wrote. [Please re-vise your fist answer as, in my opinion, it is hard to understand]
Re: Unable to drop files to Media Player Classic when dragging from Plain View
It's already explained with your reply.
It's a standard behavior in Windows Explorer and most file managers.
In FC it's possible to use option to "Always perform copy operation for left button drag&drop", or "Show popup menu for left button drop", so you can choose what to do each time.
There are other options, like F5/F6, copy/move splitter buttons to copy/move to other panel, or just hold Shift while drag&drop to always move.
Anyway, this is OT.
