FC does not see VLC in the operating system [SOLVED]
FC does not see VLC in the operating system [SOLVED]
I have chosen
Tools > Settings > Viewer > Viewer [BUTTON] > Multimedia [TAB] > Media > VLC Player (must be installed)
Tools > Settings > Viewer > Viewer [BUTTON] > Multimedia [TAB] > Media > Use the same settings for viewer and quick viewer
plus even then [in theory redundant]
Tools > Settings > Viewer > Quick Viewer [BUTTON] > Multimedia [TAB] > Media > Interface > VLC Player (must be installed)
but my multimedia files are not played in Quick Viewer [CTRL + Q] - instead of that I get a pup-up windows saying "Can not find installed VLC PLayer (www.videolan.org)"; and in Viewer [F3] I get the same message - plus [after closing it] also a FC crash pop-up window; which I can ignore by clicking the continue application button
And yes- I have checked:
1] that I have VLC still installed on my system
2] that the very same files are played without a sweat in VLC when dragged to it from selection in FreeCommander Panel
3] that the very same file formats are listed under the

C:\Program Files\VLC\vlc.exe

Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
For 32 bit FC I would try to install 32 bit VLC.
Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
I will try that out
In the meantime I have notice another consistent annoyance / bug: not only
but I also get the same pop-up message when I turn this feature off without even changing selected file. I mean: what is the point of informing a user twice about the same error of supposedly not installed VLC? To add insult to injury?
Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
Yes, this takes this problem away - assuming one is willing to switch to 32-bit version of the player used in Quick View
But nevertheless this issue
is sill relevant. There is no need for FC to repeat itself
Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
Update in 2023:
VLC is no longer available in 32 bit version.
What should we do? (I am using the 32-bit FC)

Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
Just spend a small amount of money and get the Donor x64 version of FC.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3296)
Everything Version 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
FreeCommander XE 2024 Build 905 64-bit donor
Everything Version 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.73
FreeCommander XE 2024 Build 905 64-bit donor
Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
In other words, is the VLC option only made accessible for the donor version, by design?
Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
There are enough 32 bit versions in archive: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/
Re: FC does not see VLC in the operating system
That has nothing to do with the FC design.
The free version is a 32 bit program.
Any restriction comes from the availability of some tools also in 32bit.
Its simply your decision running a 32bit tool under an x64 Windows.
Actual Windows is only x64 and many 3rd party tools will stop to support 32bit in the future.
The x64 FC donor version is a very inexpensive tool which also does only costs once and not for any updates.
I don't see any problem here.

Yes, this takes this problem away - assuming one is willing to switch to 32-bit version of the player used in Quick View
After switching from using Build 880 32-bit Public to Build 885 64-bit Donor Portable I can now use VLC player in Quick Viewer
However I have tested also Build 885 32-bit Donor Portable. And previously I had stated:
But now I have to report that it is even worst, as I get the same message three times. What for; why repeat it? The message should appear one time and contain in it a possible cause [an info about this 32/64 duality]
Or even better: there could be no pop-up window at all but just a silent warning written on a red background within the sub-window of opened QuickViewer saying what is [not] happening - just like it does now when you use Portable version with default settings and press CTRL+Q. In other words: already if FC there is nice functioning solution to this issue and it just need to be applied to also this situation
