Zipping files not working

#1 Post by wrbird » 04.03.2022, 17:43

Wow, I haven't been on this forum for a long time. Thanks for an awesome program, I've been using FreeCommander daily for at least the past 15 years.

To the problem, I just purchased a Dell Inspirion 16 Plus with Windows 11. I installed the standard exe version 865 (I've been using the portable version for a number of years now) got all my settings to my liking. When I needed to create a zip file it didn't work the way I'm used to. After selecting files, and then the Pack command, the Target field is empty. Normally, it gets automatically populated. Figuring I must have a setting wrong, I click on the Configure button in the Pack Dialog, but that doesn't do anything. If I type the zip file name I want, then it works.

I installed the portable version and everything works the way it's supposed to. Is there a bug in exe installer version, or am I doing something wrong?

P.S. I forgot to say that I did an uninstall and reinstall, and tested this with no setting changes and it still didn't work.

The Configure button is mostly usefull for packer plugins like the Total7zip.
What format is selected under "Archive format:" ?

As you say that the portable version runs fine, why do you want the installer version ?
I don't see any benefit using the installer and never had anything else than the portable version.

I used the exe installing thinking there would be better integration with Windows and context menus and so forth.

Archive format is blank. I select the drop down menu and it's blank also. Checked archive plugin setting PKZIP classic. I changed the compression level to max and now everything is working correctly. I moved it back to where it was at to see if the problem would reoccur, but it didn't. It's working as it should. Weird. I'll do a reboot and see if everything is still working good.

Thank you Marek. After the reboot everything was still working good, so I don't know what was going on. However, I'll still update :)
