Icons for toolbars and menus
Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
Well, I see I'm in the minority on this thread, but I like the new icons very much. I find them easier to see, understand and use. I noticed that ralfso said there are two icon sets to choose from. I think these are the sets I find under Settings/View/Icon Sets, where I find "Flat" and "Flat Pro." I've switched back and forth between these two and can detect no difference. Am I missing something?
Thanks, tigerdlg

Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
I suppose some people (like me) just get so used to something that it becomes second nature and we don't want to go through the process of acclimatizing ourselves all over again. Or, perhaps we are just lazy.Well, I see I'm in the minority on this thread, but I like the new icons very much.

Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
I absolutely do not want to go back to the (for me) very old-fashioned icons. I like the new ones very much.
Marek - please give everyone the choice of which icon set they prefer.
Whatever you do please do not be discouraged by the negativity here and abandon the new icons altogether.

Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
Hello,
I, too, do not like everything flat in general and this includes flat icons, too.
Does it take so much space to justify the removal of the old-non flat icons ?
If these non-flat icons carry a negative image (really ?) just make the flat ones the default one, but, please, let the possibilty to the users to select the old non-flat ones.
Thank you.

After changing this ini option, open FC, Settings (F12) > View > Icon sets > Use icons set: > select the option "Outdated bitmaps", click OK and restart FC.Marek wrote: ↑12.06.2021, 13:16Using of the old icons is possible after adding in the [Icons] section of the freecommander.ini:
Code: Select all

Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
I actually keep my FreeCommander at version 845 just so I can keep the old icons.
Really, I *never* liked the "flat symbols". The old icons are awesome.
The old icons are so clear and so very familiar. I don't even have to think when I see them - I just move to the right icon. I never want to change icons. And the most wonderful toolbars and buttons are the main reason I love FreeCommander. I stopped using Windows Explorer long ago and never looked back. I don't even look for other file managers any more. I love menus and buttons and toolbars! Long Live Menus, Buttons and Toolbars! Boo to ribbons! Boo to minimalism! Long live FreeCommander!
However, I do understand people's like for the flat icons, since it goes better with the Windows Metro theme. I use WinaeroTweaker to get my Start Menu back to Win7 style, so I'm a hanger-on to the old-school ways. My Win10 looks like it's win7 - you can't tell by looking - so the old icons are way better for me.
But Dreamer's solution works just fine, so I've now updated to version 849. (However, I think "useOutdatedIcons" sounds a little snarky).
Thank you, Dreamer.

Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
Thank you so much !
I really prefer the "Old icon set" which has very different colors.
The "Flat icons" appear all the same for me. They are not different enough to distinguish them at a glance.
Re: Icons for toolbars and menus
Just updated from 810 to 861 and almost threw-up when i saw the new flat icons!
Thought i'd have to reinstall 810.
thanks to Dreamers post #22 about using.
UseOutdatedBmps=1
PLEASE do not eliminate the old better looking icons.
At least you did not go to stick figures like firefox.
Maybe we should get rid of emoji's and go back to the old ways
