831 - Windows application caption: (Admin) FreeCommander XE

#1 Post by danielchung » 10.11.2020, 02:49

OS: Microsoft Windows 7, 64-bit
Version: FreeCommander 2020 build 831 donor, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions

Hi Marek,

With FreeCommander 2020 build 810a donor (shows 810),
the icon and the Windows application capture is normal.

However, with FreeCommander 2020 build 831, it seems to always show up as Admin.

1. In the application title bar, the compass-shaped application icon has a red center;
2. The caption text says "(Admin) FreeCommander XE".

At this point, I am not running FreeCommander in Admin mode (i.e. not choosing "Right click > Run as Admin").
Is this intended, what does this mean, or is this a bug?

Try the version 832 and check the FC exe or lnk file, desktop icon, Properties, Compatibility, if the option "Run this program as an administrator" is not checked.

Hi Marek,

I took build 832 64-bit donor version and the result is the same as build 831.
If you right-click the .EXE, "run as Admin" is not checked (not ticked).
But if you run "FreeCommander.EXE", it still shows up as Admin.

Another thing: If I go to the FreeCommander home page on the Web,
and look under the "Downloads" or "Donation" tabs,
I cannot find the donor download page (the "member" page).
I only find this link in the original e-mail notification from becoming a donor.
How could I navigate from the home page on the Web?

My OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Thanks.

Daniel

I ask Windows if the program runs "as admin".
Have you tried the portable version too http://freecommander.com/en/faq-freecom ... l-portable

It is not possible.
You can use "Help->Check for updates". If the new version is available dialog with the info is shown and you can use link in the dialog.

Hi Marek,

The above test was done with 832 64-bit portable - still shows up as "Admin".

The result with 64-bit portable versions tried:
810 64-bit portable - correct;
816 64-bit portable - this is good - does not show up as "Admin";
820 64-bit portable - already shows up as "Admin";
831 64-bit portable - shows up as "Admin".

Hi Marek,

More versions:

818 64-bit portable - this is good - does not show up as "Admin";

819 64-bit portable - already show up as "Admin" (blue centre with yellow triangle with "!" on lower-right);
820 64-bit portable - ran this again - confirmed to show up as "Admin" (red center);

840 64-bit portable - still shows up as "Admin" (wrong).

So, you might want check what changes were made from 818 to 819.

Daniel
