Yes, many (free) archive programs (with 7-Zip support) have the context menu options, e.g. 7-Zip, ZipGenius, Izarc... It's a good workaround.Bearded Kirklander wrote:One thing that works well for me is to use WinRAR and the context menu. I select items, right-click, choose "Add to archive..." or the "Add to <filename>" where the filename is auto-generated. It works quite well.
Does 7z offer integration with context menus? If so, that may be a good we to do it also.
I can certainly see the benefit of both features, especially if you wish to open an archive quickly to perhaps drag and drop copy/move or view a file or two without having to extract the entire archive into the current folder or an auto-created folder beneath the current one.wkrekik wrote:Creating 7z or RAR archives from FC via context menu is indeed possible
But opening 7z archives inside FC like ZIP, RAR or CAB files is another thing and will be very useful
To make this integration you have only to install the 7-Zip. I think adding support for 7z archives (pack, unpack, explore) is really needed.Bearded Kirklander wrote:One thing that works well for me is to use WinRAR and the context menu. Guess I never considered the need for fully integrated archive support. I just do it with the context menu, but my needs are simpler than perhaps others are. I stick with ZIP and RAR only, and with other formats, I just right-click on the archive and choose the "EXTRACT TO <folder name>". The <folder name> default value is the FILE NAME (not including extension) that you are right-clicking over. Then if I need to archive 'em back up, I just do it to a ZIP file, cause with WinRAR, it seems like the ZIP code archives noticeably faster, and the ZIP format is more widely supported, especially by 3rd party apps. In WinRAR context menus, if I select a group of archives, it provides an option to "Extract each archive to their own folder", which is also pretty convenient.FLiER wrote:To make this integration you have only to install the 7-Zip. I really missed feature of exploring 7z files in FC like zip for example.I have many stuff packed in 7z(saves space more then zip or rar).FLiER wrote:To make this integration you have only to install the 7-Zip. I think adding support for 7z archives (pack, unpack, explore) is really needed.
