FC2009 not displaying all sub-folders in directory

#1 Post by neugier » 07.09.2009, 14:58

I can't imagine why, but my portable version, downloaded from the author site today, does not display all the folders in a directory. The folders ARE there, I've opened the text files contained in them. Windows Explorer lists them and so does a small portable multi-pane explorer-type that I downloaded just to check this. This error showed up with my FC2008 version initially, that's why I downloaded the latest version today, but the problem's the same. The files in question are located on an external USB drive, a LaCie 250GB. OS is XP HomeSP3. The biggest problem may be trust now - are other directories not displaying folders as well? I have a clear Printscreen image of the directory comparison between FC2009 and Windows Explorer.

Are the sub-folders marked with the "hidden" attribute?

Also, what are the permissions of the sub-folders?

You can try to use this utility to check the permissions of the sub-folders against that of the root folder:

Oops, just saw you are using XP Home.

Well, that complicates things somewhat in regard to the folder permissions.

But, the good news is that the AccessEnum utility should still enumerate the permissions. Although, changing them (if that is what is causing them to be "hidden"), is going to be a completely different issue...

Thanks for answering E.M. Well, wouldn't ya know it...it's listing the folders today that it wouldn't display yesterday. I should have mentioned in my first post that I did check to see if, somehow, the hidden attribute had been checked and it hadn't. As far as permissions go, I'm the only user and even had to look up the definition of the term. For my satisfaction, at least, I have the printscreem image supporting my claim but it would be nice to find out what happened so I can carry on without being concerned that it might happen again without me catching it. I guess, as always, having the latest version is the best assurance. Thanks again for trying to help. N.

I've been going over this quirk again and I've discovered that the error is completely mine! My inclination is to just quietly slink off but I couldn't let such a great app's reputation be maligned due to nothing more than my over-complicated file system. Too many devices, too many directory copies. My apologies. N.
