FC Startup Failure

#1 Post by Willeboer » 18.06.2009, 11:43

I'm a new user to FC. FC installed successfully. On starting FC, nothing happens. FC appears in Task Manager, but no FC on desktop, in task bar, nowhere. I can start more than 1 instance of FC, all appear in TaskManager, but none on desktop, or taskbar, or anywhere else.

Standard WinXP Office installation on HP Compaq Notebook.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled FC twice.

Have you checked your Event Viewer logs to see if anything in the system itself is having a problem with FC appearing ?

Funny thing. Put my laptop into docking station at home (got extra monitor connected as primary at home), started FC, and it just works. Maybe looking for an "active" monitor at startup?

I run FC constantly on laptops with and without monitors connected. I am also typing this on a laptop in a docking station with 2 monitors connected through a KVM. So I don't think that is the problem.

Could it be FC does not like the screen resolution you are using on the problem monitor?

Possible cure for invisibility:

Make sure Free commander is closed.

Open the Free Commander configuration file -- should be in the FC home folder -- freeCommander.ini -- in a text editor. Under [Form] find Pos=(followed by five numbers).

The first number is the X position, how many pixels from the left side of the screen; the next is Y position, relative to the top of the screen. Change the line to read:
Pos=10, 10, 600, 900, 0

Save the file. Make sure that Notepad doesn't change the extension to txt!

Open Free Commander.
