Unable to drag-n-drop folders outside of FC with names greater than 33 characters.

#1 Post by Dave F » 25.09.2024, 19:48

I'm unable to drag-n-drop folders outside of FC with names greater than 33 characters.

If I drag it onto windows desktop, or a shortcut icon, it displays a white circle with a diagonal line through it, preventing me from completing the action.

I've tested it on Window's file explorer & works as expected.

The problem is not the total length of the path as dragging it from the c:\ root folder produces the same problem.

Is this a known problem (with a solution)?

Can't confirm with Build 901 32-bit public and 913 64-bit donor, Windows 10 22H2 64-bit.

Please, try to upgrade to the latest version, 901 or 913, and try again.

I've performed some further tests using v. 901.

It appears to be something to do with having a period somewhere in the name.

This works

Code: Select all

1234567890123456789012345678901234567890
As does this:

Code: Select all

1234567.890123456789012345678901234567890
This doesn't

Code: Select all

1.234567890123456789012345678901234567890
Is FC treating it the same as a file extension & it's exceeded it's maximum?

Why does Microsoft/Windows not produce any problems?

Please check the settings for "File/folder operations->Drag&Drop: Start draging on name or icon only" - deactivate the option and try again.

That fixes it - Thanks.

I'm curious why that options throws a problem with the foldeer name & in such specific circumstances.
