Inconsistent behaviour in Set Filter dialogue

#1 Post by MalcolmH » 27.06.2024, 18:14

I have been using Free Commander for quite a long time and would not be without it, thanks for a very useful programme. However I have been experiencing inconsistent behaviour in the Set Filter dialogue [Alt-Y] when defining Temporary Filters for several versions including the latest:

Using wildcards:
Show *.txt - works, 'Show' box retains the filespec when reopening the dialogue.
Exclude *.txt - works, but the Exclude box has been cleared when reopening the dialogue.
However, the History list for the Exclude box has remembered the filespec.
This behaviour is the same for multiple filespec definitions e.g. *.bat;*.txt

With the Regular Expression box checked:
Show 'txt' - Works, Show entry remembered on reopening dialogue but the Regular Expression box has been unchecked.
Exclude 'txt' - Does not work at all. Exclude entry is cleared on reopening dialogue and the Regular Expression box has been unchecked.
However, the History list for the Exclude box has remembered the setting.

It often takes a few tries to get a temporary regular expression right and it's irritating to have to remember to check the Regular Expression box every time I open the dialogue to edit the expression. This could, I suppose, be by design with wildcards being the default on opening the dialogue. My personal preference would be for this setting to be sticky until it is reset or until programme exit.

Incidentally the Help file and the documentation at 'Main menu - Folder - Filter - Set filter...' only shows a 'Show' box in the dialogue rather than the current dialogue which has Show and Exclude.
