Search problem related to the OS language

#1 Post by kcfc » 10.02.2023, 03:09

Windows10 21H2 Build 19044.2251, Korean Language
FreeCommanderXE 2023 Build 880 32-bit public

I had a problem with Korean search, and I posted a previous post about a related problem.
https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13266

It seems to be a bug related to the os language.
Specifically, a language for non-Unicode Applications (by default it seems to match the os language)
https://support.smartbear.com/testleft/ ... -apps.html

I tested it for some languages. (Language for Non-Unicode Applications)
Not Working: Korean, Chinese
Works : English, German, Japanese, Check unicode UTF-8

If i change the non-unicode program language it will be solved (korean -> english (or unicode UTF-8))
But changing it will break other program languages. So I have to keep my Korean settings.

This was not a fundamental solution.

It looks some kind of bug for korean language users.
Currently, Koreans cannot use freecommander properly because the basic search does not work properly in Korean. (ALT+Y filter works great)

Would you fix the problem when using Korean Windows?

Thank you

After adding the Korean language to my Windows and testing it, I can reproduce the problem.
It seems that Windows function I'm using is not working properly.
I'm looking for a solution.

After checking again, it turned out that the Korean language was not installed correctly on my PC.
After reinstalling the language everything now works correctly when I switch the Windows display language to Korean.

I think it's related to the non-unicode application language.
https://support.smartbear.com/testleft/ ... -apps.html

Is it correct that you reproduced it in the non-unicode application language Korean (Window language Korean + Non-Unicode language Korean) ?

Window language : anything + Non-Unicode application language : Korean, Chinese -> not working..
Window language : anything + Non-Unicode application language : English, Germany -> works

Since I installed Korean Windows, there is no way that Korean Windows cannot be installed properly, and this seems to be related only to non-Unicode languages.
When I reproduced it, it had nothing to do with the Windows language, only non-Unicode Application languages.

Would you check again when you have time ?

Thank you

Yes I can reproduce it. It seems to me, however, that the Windows problem is.
I found that if the option "Beta: use Unicode UTF-8..." in the Windows "Region Settings" dialog is enabled then everything works correctly.
Could you check it?

Yes, It works great when I check Beta : unicode UTF-8.
But.. If i check Beta or change to English, Germany, there is a problem with broken text in other apps.

If this was a Windows problem, Korean search would not work properly in all Windows programs.
Even in the old version of Free Commander, it works well and it works well in other explorer programs.

It's sad.
Is there any other way to fix it?

In the release 885 you can try the new option in the freecommander.ini file:

Code: Select all

FileListMatchMaskWithAnsi=1
Default value for the option is 0, so you should manually change it to 1.
I think, if you use on your PC only Korean and English - it should work OK.
