Auto refresh issues (updated 6x)

#1 Post by Dreamer » 26.02.2023, 14:11

Update: for all the issues below use these Recycle Bin Properties options, right click the splitter Recycle Bin icon and click to "Properties":

(o) enable "Custom size"
( ) disable "Don't move file to the Recycle Bin..."
[v] - enable "Display delete confirmation dialog"

I updated also some steps.

1) Auto refresh settings issue:
- use default settings
- set this option in Settings > Quick search/filter/starter > Quick search/Quick filter > Quick filter: "[v] Keep filter on tab change"
- go to folder with subfolders, with the files txt and jpg in all folders and subfolders
- press Ctrl+B to enable plain view
- type .txt in the quick filter field
- lock tab
- press F12 and Enter, to open and close Settings window
= plain view is still enabled, but quick filter is disabled

2) Subfolders not auto refreshed:
- set this option in Settings > Quick search/filter/starter > Quick search/Quick filter > Quick filter: "[v] Keep filter on tab change"
- in one folder, e.g. Test, create Subfolder1, add file test1.txt, and in this subfolder another Subfolder2, test2.txt
- go to folder Test
- press Ctrl+B to enable plain view
- type .txt in the quick filter field
- lock tab
- open another FC instance with the folder Test, both FC instances should be in window, next to each other
- copy/paste file test1.txt in Subfolder1
- new file test1 - Copy.txt is shown in FC first instance, auto-refresh works correctly
- copy/paste file test2.txt in Subfolder2
= new file test2 - Copy.txt is NOT shown in FC first instance

Same behavior if the new copy files are deleted.

3) "Refresh when FreeCommander is activated" issue:
- after the steps above use these steps
- enable the option "Refresh when FreeCommander is activated" in Settings > File/folder list > Refresh tab ("Ignore auto refresh..." must be disabled)
- re-enable quick filter (because it's disabled for issue #1)
- open another FC instance with the folder Test, both FC instances should be in window, next to each other
- copy/paste file test1.txt in Subfolder1
- click to free space the first FC instance
- new file is shown, refresh works correctly
- go to second FC instance again
- copy/paste file test2.txt in Subfolder2
- click to free space the first FC instance
= new file test2 - Copy.txt is NOT shown in FC first instance, refresh does not work, even if it should be refreshed after FC is activated

I tested this twice and it looks, it's broken if the option "Display delete confirmation dialog" for Recycle Bin Properties is disabled, if it's enabled, it looks it works good.

EDIT:

4) File container auto refresh issue:
- after the steps above use these steps
- create a new file container in the right panel
- go to left panel
- go to folder Test
- press Ctrl+B to enable plain view
- type .txt in the quick filter field
- 4 txt files should be in the same folders as above, copy/paste test1 and test2 if needed
- lock tab
- copy four txt files, test1, test2, test1 copy, test2 copy (from the subfolder1 and subfolder2) from the left panel to file container in the right panel
- in the second instance delete file test1 - Copy.txt
- in the first instance the file is removed in the left panel, auto refresh works correctly
= in the first instance, right panel the file is NOT removed, auto refresh does not work
- now delete the file test2 - Copy.txt in the second instance
= this file is NOT removed in the first instance, in any panel, even after activating the FC window

Manual refresh Ctrl+R works good.

EDIT2:

5) Folder size auto refresh issues:
- use the refresh option "Add new items at the end of the list"
- first 3 options in Refresh tabs should be enabled, last 2 disabled
- use NC-mode
- use FC file operations for copy and move
- use the queue options, status bar Only if any operation exists and Make queue button as default...
- use the options for "no dialog" and "auto minimize dialog" for copy/move operations
- copy large file from the right panel to the test folder in the left panel, it should not be possible to move it in a few seconds
- go up, test folder should be visible
- use details view with the column "Size Auto"
- enable the option "Size of folders"
- lock view (probably not needed)
- enter the test folder in the left panel, open it
- select the file and press F6 to move the files to the other panel, other drive must be used
- while the file is still moving, go up, test folder should be visible
- wait until the file is moved and the queue bar is closed
= folder size in Size Auto column is NOT updated, it should be 0
- delete the first large file
- move another large file to the left panel, drive 1, test folder
- go up in the left panel
- drag&drop the file to the right panel while holding Shift to move it to drive 2
- quickly go up in the left panel, FC may freeze, so you can pause the operation to go to test folder in the left panel and then resume operation
- wait untill the file is fully moved
= folder size in Size Auto column is NOT updated, it should be 0

With these next steps it works good (not re-tested in 891-3 test):
- refresh view to update the folder size, it should be 0
- now drag&drop the file with the Shift key from right panel to left panel, to the test folder
= now the size is updated correctly
- open the test folder in Windows Explorer or other FC instance
- delete the file there
= size in the first FC instance is updated correctly either

6) Folder size auto refresh issues:
- after the steps from issue #5 use these steps
- unlock view
- use details view
- disable the option "Size of folders"
- lock view
- test file, large file, should be in test folder, in the left panel, drive 1
- if needed, use another large file
- go to test folder
- move the file to the right panel, other drive
- go up in the left panel
- press space to select test folder
- size should be visible now, it should be done before the file is fully moved
- wait until the file is moved completely
- press space to deselect folder
- press space again to select folder
= size is NOT updated, this is more a suggestion to update it this way

I'm not sure if all these issues are bugs, but I'll create another topic, with the suggestions, which could solve similar issues.

FC 884 64-bit / 880 32-bit, Windows 10 22H2 64-bit

Last update 2023-07-19, re-checked all issues with the test version 891-3 64-bit (not released yet, should be the same with 891 64-bit).

7) Recycle bin refresh issues:
- use these Recycle Bin Properties options, right click the splitter Recycle Bin icon and click to "Properties":
(o) enable "Custom size"
( ) disable "Don't move file to the Recycle Bin..."
[v] - enable "Display delete confirmation dialog"

- use default settings for FC
- create toolbar buttons for all 7 Delete actions
- open Recycle bin in the right panel, it should be empty
- create multiple files in the test folder in the left panel, so that horizontal scrollbar will be visible, with at least 10 files in the second column
- select the last file
- click the Delete button
= Recycle bin is not auto-refreshed
- same way click the other 3 "Delete to recycle bin" buttons with the bin icon
= Recycle bin is not auto-refreshed

I can reproduce it almost always.

More related issues:
- after the steps for issue #7...
- refresh view for both panels
- restore all deleted files
- select the last file in the left panel
- click the button "Delete to recycle bin (FC)"
- click the Run button
= focus is changed from left panel to right panel

- after the steps above...
- select the last file in the left panel
- click the button "Delete to recycle bin (FC)"
= focus in the left panel is "lost", view is changed to first column with the files, while the last file is still selected, just scroll with mouse wheel down to see it
- while the last file is selected in the left panel and it's visible...
- click the button "Delete to recycle bin (FC) - no dialog"
= focus in the left panel is "lost", view is changed to first column with the files, while the last file is still selected, just scroll with mouse wheel down to see it

Action "Delete to recycle bin (Win)" doesn't have this issue.

8) Folder focus issue, similar to #7, just with standard folders, dirs:
- after the basic steps for issue #7...
- create empty test folder in the right panel
- place or create multiple files in the test folder in the left panel, so that horizontal scrollbar will be visible, with at least 10 files in the second column
- select the last file
- now click to empty space, so that last file remain focused, but NOT selected, background color should disappear
- click the move splitter button
= focus is changed to the .. item, it's not selected, just focused, last file should be focused or/and selected

It works good when using the copy splitter button instead of move button.

Not fixed yet.

Retested with the latest test version 891-3 64-bit (not released yet, should be the same with 891 64-bit).

Changed for the next release.

In the plain view only base folder is refreshed - it is by design.
I find this not necessary and maybe even annoying when looking at thousands of subfolders on a network where multiple users are working.
I can add only INI option for full refresh.

Problems with jumping focus after deleting or moving are fixed for the next release.
