5th new player for the Viewer / Quick Viewer feature of Media Interface

#1 Post by Forez » 22.07.2022, 03:49

Under the

Tools > Settings > Viewer > Quick Viewer [BUTTON] > Multimedia [TAB] > Media > Interface >

a user can choose either

- MCI
- Windows Media Player 6.0
- Windows Media Player 9.0
- VLC Player (must be installed)

which seems enough. But would it be possible to implement in a foreseeable future Media Player Classic [Home Cinema rendition] as the 5th player possible to choose from? It is a popular coomunity based free audio and video player with massive file format support. And it is being constantly upgraded along with K-Lite Codec Pack despite its official discontinuation as far as in 2017 [https://mpc-hc.org]

Some users have a modus operandi of using one player only for audio and some other only for video playback. And as:

- Windows Media Player 6.0 and Windows Media Player 9.0 are both from corporate Microsoft and have ben replaced with Groove Music [which is also to be replaced by a newer player];
- MCI is so unpopular that it is not even listed in Wikipedia [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCI] and is audio-only program;
- VLC is cannot be split into VLC-for-audio and VLC-for-video;

adding another very configurable player covering both media ends would increase usability of the Viewer / Quick Viewer feature

Maybe it could be implemented instead of another Windows Media Player [newer] version?

From the https://mpc-hc.org/:
MPC-HC is not under development since 2017. Please switch to something else.

Thats old information.
The MPC-HC is continuesly developed and part of the K-Lite Codec Packs.
For me the best available combination which beats VLC.
Current version of MPC-HC is 1.9.22.12 from July 14 2022

Also the codec ack can install all codecs for use with the Windows media player
which means no need for VLC at all.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3296)
Everything Version 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.67
FreeCommander XE 2024 Build 905 64-bit donor
