Search dialog fails with content search and very long paths

#1 Post by h-h » 30.10.2022, 20:06

Environment:
  • FreeCommander XE 2022 Build 861 32-bit public
  • Windows 10, 64 bits
  • Registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem", value "LongPathsEnabled" is set to 1.
Steps:
  • Create a path with folders, less than 260 chars long.
  • Create a file in the deepest folder whose absolute path exceeds 260 chars.
  • Write something recognizable like "abc" into the file.
  • Go to the deepest folder and press Ctrl+F for the search dialog.
  • Enter a filename pattern that'll find the file. Searching yields it in the results list.
  • Enter some of the file's contents like "abc" in the "Contained text" text box. Searching leaves the result list empty.
  • Add "\\?\" to the front of the search-in path text box. Searching now finds the file.
Expectation: The file should also be found without adding the path prefix "\\?\".
