feature request: implement option "exclude file extension" in Compare folders settings

#1 Post by mgroen » 03.03.2020, 12:04

This feature request relates to this question viewtopic.php?f=18&t=10380

The feature request is to create an option in Folder Compare settings to in/exclude file extensions in the comparison.
Currently only file name is there but not possible to exclude file extensions!

thanks,

Marek

Maybe you can tell us for what purpose this should serve.
Implementing something that doesn't seem sensible is not really my thing.

The purpose looks simple to me: to be able to compare files with same name but different extension.
Here is the use case:
I had converted a bulk of .rtf files to .pdf with a converter. This converter converted all files keeping same file name and changing the extension to pdf.
After that, I wanted to check if all files I needed to convert where converted. Folder comparision would not be applicable because all files differ because of different extension.
If it was possible to exclude the extension I would be easily getting overview of missed files.

Thanks,

Marek

I think you could use Search->Duplicates for the task.
In the "Location" tab define
File name: *.rtf;*.pdf
Search in Folders: Path1;Path2
If all files are in one folder then use only Path1.

In the "Duplicates" tab activate "Find duplicate files" and "Same file name (without extension)"

As result you can check if all pair was find.

To be honest, I have not tried above.
With all due respect, for me that is a workaround.
I thought FC could be improved thats why I did the feature request....

I think the team is too busy or they see the feature as really unnecessary or not the time to implement it. So that it took so long.
