Extensions on folder names

#1 Post by ronschuster » 01.05.2018, 16:49

I have folder names with extensions on them. For example: MyFolder.ABC. I know extensions on folder names is not so common, but they are used occasionally. FreeCommander seems to go out of its way to not support them.

In the regular Rename dialog the extension is not recognized as such. The folder's extension is in the New name field even if Use only one field is not checked, and New extension field is disabled.

I want to select multiple folders that have extensions, and then use Multi Rename to rename the extensions. But instead of replacing the extension with the new value, it appends it. For example, I enter 'XYZ' into Pattern, File Extension. If the old folder name is MyFolder.ABC, the new name is MyFolder.ABC.XYZ.

Your problem with how currently FC works with folders is similar to mine in regards to files: https://freecommander.com/forum/viewtop ... 05&p=27320

The problem with your "folder names with extensions" is that in windows folders have no extensions. It's just a name with a dot.
Even in file names you can use dots, e.g. file.name.ext.
Only the letters after the last dot are the extension, the other dots belong to filename.
