Settings Backup-Restore accross versions

#1 Post by andrewsc » 11.05.2016, 02:27

I'm getting a new PC, so it's an opportunity to upgrade FC from 717 to 720.
While still on version 717, I did a "Backup all settings".
I save the directory where I backed up, so it will be available on the new PC.

Will the restore work when I do "Restore all settings" on my new machine with version 720 of Free Commander ?

I recently got a new rig also and I had no problems with FC. You need to keep the same partitioning, though, so your saved paths work the same. However, it won't be a problem to change few paths if the partition numbering differs.

Hello

I need to do something similar to what the asker wanted but in my settings folder, I cannot see my favorites.

So my question is how to copy these settings also to my laptop please so that Free Commander on my laptop is exactly the same as on my desktop (I can change pathnames afterwards if need be)

thanks

Favorites are stored in "FreeCommander.fav.xml".

If you want to have all settings equal to your PC, copy all files in your settings folder.

Hello Ralfso

I've looked where you said and everywhere but cannot find

FreeCommander.fav.xml

I've also tried clicking on "save settings" in FreeCommander but can't find where settings are saved to (not in manual)

I'm on Windows 7 by the way

Can you try to help me again please?

Thanks

Please list the files that you found in the settings folder.
Does the path to freecommander.ini (Help > About > Paths info) point to this settings folder?
Where is your FreeComander installed and which version is you FreeCommander?

Thanks Ralfso

I found the .ini file thanks to you at:

C:\Users\Dave Neve\AppData\Roaming\FreeCommander\FreeCommander.ini

and I can see my favorites inside this file

Regards
