File Sync Bug

#1 Post by Jim213 » 24.01.2016, 16:20

I was undoing an update to some of my files and had a problem with the backup. The following steps reproduce it;

1. Sync a folder on the C drive containing a new file called 'test.txt' to a memory stick. (Left C Drive -> Right Memory Stick)
2. Both folders are sync'd correctly.
3. Now open 'test.txt' on the Memory Stick, change it by adding a word, then save it.
4. Repeat Sync/Compare the two folders again (Left C Drive -> Right Memory Stick).
5. The file is not found as the file on the C Drive now has an earlier time/date. Even a compare of content or checksum wont find it.

6. Sync/Compare the two folders again but with Left Memory Stick -> Right C Drive and the file is identified correctly.

Problem exists on both FreeCommander XE 2015 Build 685 32-bit public and the just installed 2016 beta versions.

I think this is a bug but maybe this is the way it is supposed to work.
Please let me know...

It works as expected here.
Have you tried another memory stick?

It also 'fails' C Drive to C Drive.

What I think what is happening is that maybe I am expecting file sync to work in a different way to how it was designed.

I am using it as a way of backing-up files from the left to the right.

But it was designed to "sync" files. Where the newest files are king.
So an older file on the left can not be transferred to the right.

What I need is a dumb backup program.
