"Continuous" filename renaming

#1 Post by eric_verboven » 11.05.2015, 20:59

When you're in Detail View (don't know about the other views, I only use Detail), you can "slow click", which brings you in File Rename mode - but only for the file you happen to be on. It would be nice to then be able to use the Arrow Up and Arrow Down keys to bring you to the previous or the next file in the list, and remain in Rename mode. Currently, the Up and Down arrows bring you to the end or the beginning of the filename. There are other ways to get there, so it would make sense to use these arrow keys for something new - such as this "continous renaming mode".

Directory Opus is working like that, and it's actually a very practical feature when you're dealing with a lot filenames you want to rename. Using the Up/Down Arrows works like saving the updated filename, and additionally it brings you to the next/previous file in your list.

An additional suggestion: it would make sense, should this "continous renaming" be implemented, to have the cursor land up on the "relevant" part of the filename you're coming to, based on the location within the name where you were. OK, for example: you're on file "This_is_123.jpg", and your cursor is right before "123". You're then using the Down Arrow to go to "This_is_456.jpg", and your cursor would be right before "456". Jeez, these things are difficult to explain :-)

Anyway, some sort of "continuous file renaming mode" would be a nice additional feature.

Really nice feature! But rather dangerous for inexpert user. Maybe it's a good idea to implement a separate mode for "Continous renaming" (like "Multirename...")

OK, a separate mode could be useful. Or a separate setting, "Allow continuous renaming Y/N" or something like that.

Oh I've just wanted to make a post about this. There are a lot of cool features in Directory Opus, but nowdays it is too expensive... So yeah, +1 for this feature :)
