HOSTS File remains Hidden

#1 Post by llsee » 26.05.2014, 01:25

I use and actively manage the HOSTS file on my Win7 P/C. But, using FreeCommander XE (portable Apps version), when I navigate to c:\Windows\System32\drivers\, the folder containing the HOSTS file, the 'etc' folder does not display. I have verified that I have both 'show hidden files' and 'show system files' checked. I can view the folder and file in Windows explorer. And, if I edit the address bar in the active window to be 'c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc' then it shows the content of the folder. What am I missing that does not show this folder and its contents in normal activity? When I search for 'HOSTS', the search does not find the file, unless I specify c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc' in the 'Search in' folder. As a work-around, I was able to add the 'etc' folder to my 'Favorites' list. But, the behavior is still annoying. :?:

Thanks for the response, the linked article explained the situation and provided a better work-around. I don't suppose there is any hope for a 64bit version of FreeCommander?
