Default column settings

#1 Post by MikeGB » 31.01.2014, 13:39

Hi, Is there some trick to getting FC to use different settings for columns by default?
I have found various posts on here about it and made a custom profile, defined widths for all columns, turned off auto size and set the condition as 'fixed' but FC still opens with different column settings every time.

After you have created your custom colums profile, did you select it for each panel manually...

by right clicking on the columns header, then going to the "Column Profiles" sub-menu - then selecting the column profile you created ?

Here, I have called my custom profile "Jan2" - as an example

Yes, I have to do that every time I start FC.

That`s very odd...the only other thing I can think of right now is whether you start up with specific folders in the 2 panes.

I notice when I go up a level to the location called "Computer" and then up another level to the location called "Desktop"

those two locations always default to their own column profile ~ which I can change to my own profile ~ but go back to them again, and they have reverted to defaults.

Those two places will not remember my settings.

Could you be starting up with either of those two locations ?

I can`t think of anything else what could be causing that to happen....hopefully some settings whizz will reply with the solution (which will probably be obvious :) )

I have FC starting with one drive root in the left pane and my computer in the right.
On startup, the column settings in the left pane are not as I previously set them.
If I open a drive from my computer in the right pane it goes to the same column settings as the left pane and not the ones I have defined.
I have to select my profile for each pane to get the column settings I would like.

To add to previous.
I tried setting an ordinary folder to open in each pane of FC and setting my column preferences, then I selected 'save settings' from the tools menu and closed FC, it reopened with all the old settings!
I have selected the option to save all it's settings to it's install folder but I have the entire program folder being loaded into a RAM drive on system start up, the program does show it's settings folder as being on the RAM drive but I also have it set to backup to a normal drive, would any of that have an effect on it?

It's build 650, I can't find anything in help-about regarding 32 or 64 bit but win task manager shows it running as a 32 bit process.

I have been running it from it's original install folder instead of the RAM drive but it still behaved the same regarding columns so I deleted the settings folder and started again and just altered the 'fc_default_view' column profile to the settings I preferred and FC is now opening with the alterations I made.

Just make sure your desired profile is the first one in the list:
