When unpacking an archive results in folders being created by that process the tree list is not updated to show the new folders. Pressing [Ctrl] [R] will not achieve this either.
It is possible to work around this but not easily. A user can change to a different drive letter, then change back again. That updates the tree list.
The subfolders created by unpacking the archive are shown correctly in the file listing part of the display. Double left clicking on that part of the display will even go into the new folders. But these actions STILL do not update the tree list on the left of the display.

Thanks Karol. I have not tried that so it might be the answer. I have not had a chance to reproduce the problem to check for sure.
=== BUT ===
Both MS-Windows Explorer and XY- Plorer do achieve an automatic update of the tree list to show new folders created by unpacking an archive - so is there any reason why FC cannot do this as well?
