Save Settings to Different Profiles?
Save Settings to Different Profiles?
Is there a Profile mode, to save different settings to each? For instance I've introduced by brother and sister to FC, and since we'll use it, the favourites folder gets stuffed up, and we've to consistently swtich b/w view panes. Is there any options that lets you save settings for different profiles, so that in case of multiple users, they could set to their profiles before they start using it?
Re: Save Settings to Different Profiles?
I see 2 possibilities (use Tools\Settings\Start program\Configuration folder):
1. Create 3 user accounts in your windows system and tell FC to save settings in C:\Users\u.s.e.r.\AppData\Local\FreeCommanderXE. You'll use the same installation files, but there will be 3 separate folders with settings. You'll have to log-on each with his own user account.
2. Use 3 separate FCXE folders (download .zip version) and have them all save settings in "FreeCommander install folder". You'll have 3 FCXE folders, each containing settings. Each of you will have to start his own FCXE (it's easy to assign different icons for the shortcuts to differentiate them). This is my preferred method as it offers more flexibility (you can take the folder and move it or put it on a USB stick and still have the settings with you).

Re: Save Settings to Different Profiles?
3. Use one FCXE folder and 3 separate INI folders - create 3 icons for starting FC (one per user) with the parameter "-Ini="
Example:
c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe -Ini=c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\User1
c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe -Ini=c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\User2
c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe -Ini=c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\User3
Example:
c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe -Ini=c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\User1
c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe -Ini=c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\User2
c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\freecommander.exe -Ini=c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE\User3
Re: Save Settings to Different Profiles?
Thank you both. I think it's better to have a single FC folder and have 3 different ini files.
But this was meant as a feature request, so that you don't have to create 3 different ini files manually and then have 3 different icons for it. I'd reference UltraExplorer, where it allows you to save interface layout to different profiles directly within the program, and you can select the layout you saved before you start working.
But still I think it does not go all the way, as to save the settings to different profiles, so the favourites bar is cramped up. If FC can do this, it'll be amazing.
