I accidentally started two instances of Freecommander and wanted to instantly close the second one by pressing Alt+F4 but got warning:
"Please wait - network loading thread is active"
I understand that this is necessary when the user wants to do something that might interfere with it, but can´t that thread be stopped/killed when the user simply wants to exit the program?
Warning message when exiting FC instantly after starting it
Re: Warning message when exiting FC instantly after starting
FC has a setting for that extra thread. You can change it in Settings>Network>"Load network in background process on program start"
However, I agree that if you exit FC, it should also exit the underlying threads.

No, I think it´s good to use a thread for that. It just shouldn´t interfere with closing the program.
Re: Warning message when exiting FC instantly after starting
Larsen, you misunderstand me. I didn't mean that the threading shouldn't be used.
I meant that if you exit the FreeCommander that launches the network-discovery thread, that network-discovery thread should exit WITH FreeCommander. If you close that instance of FreeCommander, what good is the thread? And if you exit the thread along with FreeCommander, then you wouldn't have any message to tell you that you have to wait.

Re: Warning message when exiting FC instantly after starting
Isn't it easier to check in Settings - General - Allow only one instance (needs restart) and all problems would be solved.
Re: Warning message when exiting FC instantly after starting
Not if the user wants to use multiple instances in some other case. Also, the user might have started FC only once but for whatever reason wants to close it right away.
I agree that it won´t happen very often and for the majority perhaps not at all, but I think that if FC is closing and it´s possible to automatically close the thread, FC should just do so instead of displaying a message that forces the user to click on it and close the program again.
That´s one of those situations annoying the user who thinks "Ok, fine, whatever. Why don´t you close it yourself then!?".
And don´t get me wrong: I´m not saying that FC is annoying! It´s just one small little thing that would make it even more perfect =)
