Here are some more items that might be of interest concerning FrCXE development ...
if not, then just ignore them.

Some Search/Find popup GUI issues I just encountered are»
sorting by the type column does not sort properly;
What about users being able to select search results display columns? extension?
The only way I found to remove something from the search results
was to select "delete" & then reply "NO" to the popup.
What about users being able to resize the height of the search settings
after/when search results are displayed?
What about &hokeys for items in the search settings tabs?

How to navigate the Settings popup seems a bit inconsistent.
TAB will always move between the right & left sides but Shift-TAB will not always.
Seems to me Shift-TAB should also always move between the right & left sides.
Ctrl-TAB will always move between the right & left sides but
Ctrl-Shift-TAB will only sometimes move right to left between tabs on the right side.
Seems to me Ctrl-TAB & Ctrl-Shift-TAB should always
move L2R or R2L between tabs on the right side.

FrCXE now seems to keep highlighted/selected items highlighted/selected, but
I have noticed that when I hit BackSpace to go up one level,
FrCXE does not always keep/put focus on the folder I just left ...

I have recently discovered some awesome features of some wdx/content plugins.
Is/Could it be possible to use wdx/content plugins in FrCXE?

Why don't you use the forum standard "one suggestion > one topic"?

This has nothing to do with the primery poll-title. Nobody can vote for one of the 47 topics in this thread.

Greetings.

The thread topic is "XE considerations ...",
so each of the 47+ items is germane.

The poll is dead now anyway, but I don't know how to delete/end it.

This is the only way I can handle/manage the 47+ issues
that I have submitted as feedback
in case Marek might find some/any value in the on-going list of items ...
If not, just ignore them.
I couldn't handle/manage having 147+ threads open.

Looks like only 4 or 5 topics to me, which wouldn't be so difficult. I agree, however, XE Considerations is a broad name for a topic. However, I don't think this thread should be a dumping ground for all "considerations" or bug reports. It makes it difficult to address each issue individually. It is the nature of forums that folks respond on-topic to a particular subject. If we place multiple topics in the same thread, and everyone answers in that one thread, that thread gets very long and difficult to follow. We don't want Marek to have to sort though all that.

After all, this forum is really designed to make it easy for Marek to see what needs to be done. If everything is in one post, he can't just read about the single issue, and things get convoluted.

6March2012

This past week I have done lots of things with FrCXE.

I tried out the FrC Delete/Copy/Move functionality.
FrC Delete won't delete my folders (with a hidden/system desktop.ini)
UNLESS view hidd/sys files is enabled.
It would be nice if the popups had some &hotkeys ...
When I set FrC to do FrC DEL & Copy but not Move,
the Move: Move (depending on settings WITHOUT dialog) hotkey
triggers FrC Move instead of Windows Move ...
For now I've set FrC to use Win D/C/M but
set special/additional hotkeys to trigger FrC D/C/M.

What about an "overwrite with no prompt" setting/ hotkey option?

I re-did/updated my custom columns & thumbnail settings.

It would be nice if ...
... the custom columns popup had some &hotkeys & other shortcuts for doing things;
(the FrC settings popups are generally lacking in &hotkeys/shortcuts &OK? &Cancel? &Apply?)
... the column width spinboxes could/would also increment by 1 not always/just 2;

The autosize name setting generally (significantly) oversizes the name column;
What about an autosize option that resizes the name column to "fit to width" in the active panel?

When I click on the "condition" column, often times that triggers
the FrC rename the "view name" column - which makes the work difficult & should not happen.
When moving a "view name" item up/down,
the list of items does not scroll with the item movement;
so the item moves up/down out of view ...
Some of the FrC "column options" (e.g., Files/Folders/Items) are dead. (not yet implemented?)
There is a TotalCommander wdx/content plugin that allows
"on-demand" loading of shell info columns -
similar to calculating/displaying file/folder sizes on demand.
This feature is INVALUABLE when going in to a directory/folder
with lots of multimedia type files (avi/flv/mp4/wav/mp4/m4a ...)

It would be nice if ...
... the thumbnail spacing spinboxes could/would also increment by 1 not always/just 2;
... it was possible to TAB to the spacing spinboxes;
(It is possible to SHIFT-TAB to the spacing spinboxes but not to TAB to them.)

Greetings.

latest thoughts/input ...

FrCXE does not hightlight the copied/moved item in the pane where it was copied/moved.

There is the "Select only file name" setting, but I need/use both ...
It would be nice if there was a way to hotkey either name only or name.ext ...

I have found/seen the "Always overwrite without prompt" on the WinCopy dialog,
but my input for consideration is "no prompt & no dialog".
Many times I want to copy/move with "no prompt & no dialog".
I almost never need/want the/a dialog.
Other times I could/would use a "with prompt" hotkey ...

Sometimes I use FrC to change the timestamp of files.
I tab down to "Set timestamp", hit space,
tab down to modified, hit space,
try but cannot tab over to the column with the timestamp.
I then click on the "modified" checkbox and
can then tab over to the column with the timestamp.
I am always noticing TAB/&hotkey/shortcut issues
because it is so much more ergonmomic
to not have to keep moving back and forth to/from the mouse/touchpad.

The FrCXE "Compare" seems to work well/properly ... all the time.
The FrCXE "Select same in other pane" does not seem to work properly all the time.
Sometimes it will only highlight the first file listed in the other pane -
even if FrCXE has said the two panes are identical.
I guess "Synchronize" is not yet implemented?

It would be nice if users could select custom column views with hotkeys.
It would also be nice if users could toggle overriding custom column conditions
by toggling a specific "sticky" custom view for a tab on a tab by tab basis.

I played around with the NC-mode under "Select items".
There is the settings option "Extend with Shift & Ctrl",
but only Shift seems to have any effect.
It would be nice if users could toggle NC-mode with a hotkey.
It would be nice if users could assign some other key(s)
to do what the spacebar does by default.
To make the spacebar dual purpose for now, I use the following »

Code: Select all

#IfWinActive, FreeComm ahk_class TFcFormMain
Space::
ErrorLevel := 0
KeyWait, LShift, DT.5
If (ErrorLevel = 0)
 Send {Space}
else Send ^{Space}
Return
NC-mode seems to have to some bugs.
Resorting after selecting multiple items (seemingly)
results in FrCXE keeping the rows (but not the items) selected that were selected.
If I highlight/select some scripts & then bring up the XP contextmenu and compile the scripts,
FrCXE winds up highlighting/selecting an inexplicable assortiment of files afterwards.

it is possible to have 0 items in FrCXE highlighted/selected when NC-mode is not active,
but that is not possible when NC-mode is active.

AEN007 wrote:The Goto Tab popup (which has &hotkeys!) now works for me!
That makes my life SO MUCH better!
(Any chance the popup might be able to sort/list the tabs in the same order as FrC?)
The Goto Tab popup does not handle multiple instances of tabs with the same "name".
The popup only lists the first instance.
It is GREAT that the popup has &hotkeys.
I usually have 8 or 9 or more tabs open and find it a bit difficult
to pickout the tab I want in the popup list.
The popup lists the items alphabetically.
I know the general location of the tab I want but not always the "name".

For various reasons I changed my script to»

Code: Select all

#IfWinActive, FreeComm ahk_class TFcFormMain
Space::Send ^{Space}
^s::Send {Space}
I had Ctrl-S set to "Save settings"; but
like I "said" elsewhere/somewhere, Save settings seems to do nothing.
"Save settings" does not update the FrCXE.ini file ...

I had to tweak my {SPACEBAR} script again ...»

Code: Select all

^s::Send {Space}
Space::
ControlGetFocus, CGFctrl, FreeComm ahk_class TFcFormMain
IfInString, CGFctrl, Edit1
 Send {Space}
else Send !^{Space}
Return
I found that I couldn't type blanks with the SPACEBAR when editing & etc ...

The FreeComm "sticky" (non-search file find? - what is this feature called?) is unique & great.
I do not have to quickly type all the characters of the file name I would like FC to find/highlight; however,
I often find that it is TOO sticky ...
I don't (at the moment) have anything more specific to input/suggest but
wish that somehow the feature was not SO sticky ...
that I did not always have to hit ESC to toggle off the feature ...
One specific I can give is that when users hit SHIFT & UP or DOWN, the "quick-find" box should close!

Compare has a "2 sec. difference ignore" option.
What about some option to ignore a time diff. of exactly 1 hour?
I hate how MS-Win changes the file save times every DST switch ...

Maybe it would be useful/simple if the "quick-find" box would close when users hit the SHIFT key.
The "quick-find" box is not case sensitive, so SHIFT has no use in the "quick-find" box.
How often anyone might do SHIFT & LEFT or RIGHT I do not know.
I never do ...

NC-mode seems to have to some bugs.
Another bug I have encountered is»
If I select 1 or 2 or x items, then move to a folder and hit enter to go into that folder
(maybe because I want to copy/move the selected items into that folder),
FrCXE will not go into the folder when I hit enter
but rather will execute the default action for the selected items.
This does NOT happen when I do the exact same & NC-mode is NOT in effect ...
