Multi-rename search and replace always excludes extension

When using the multi-rename dialog, the 'search for' field never seems to include the extension, regardless of whether 'Exclude extension' is set or not.

In the regular Alt+F7 search the extension is included in the search.
If this is WAD (something to do with the 'File name' [n], 'File extension' [e] spline in the 'Pattern') then it's very confusing.
