[solved - thanks, marek] 634 - F1 key no longer customizable

#1 Post by alf5000 » 25.09.2013, 12:41

I used to press F1 key to quickly close the active folder tab - F1 doesn't close folder tab in XE634 anymore, but it is assigned correctly: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/142 ... orking.png

Maybe it was ”stolen” by the help file (internal command).

F1 key still can't be customized in XE635. :(

I understand that FCXE help-file has priority at the moment, but ...?!?
will it come back??

You can use the HotkeyP, small free tool, as workaround, you can change any shortcuts, keys in almost any program.

thanks for trying to help

but I can't - supposedly I'm not smart enough to use the app.

anyway:
FXCE was able to customize F1-key up to version 633 without any third party program. newer versions can't -- doesn't look like improvement in that very special case.

It's not so complicated...

Just download and upnack the program, no need to install, run hotkeyp.exe, create profile...

Then for F1 in FC create this hotkey:

Hot key: F1
Command: Send keys to window
Parameters: \ctrl.w FreeCommander.exe

F1 is reserved for Help in most programs and it's not just about this single hotkey, you can easily change any hotkey or shortcut, even create new shortcuts from any command in main menu.

@Dreamer
thanks for your very, very useful hints!
For my F1 problem I prefer: Send keys to active window, though.

the app is gorgeous.
I use it now for lots of things (like starting portable apps ...)

but then again: FCXE should be capable of doing it natively!

Sorry, my mistake, of course, it should be "Keys to active window".

If you need any help with HotkeyP, just ask me.

F1 key still can't be customized in XE635.
The F1 key is used per default for the showing of the help file.
However if you remove/rename the help file from the FreeCommander folder, you can use it for other actions. I have assigned F1 for "Close Tab" and it works fine. You need only to confirm the message about help file in the shortcuts dialog.

@marek
renaming help file works like a charm, thanks.
sorry for being so obstinate - but F1 is essential for my workflow.

@dreamer
thanks for your generous offer, but beware I might take it seriously some time ;)
