Right, but single/dual pane option is not for everyone.
imagine XE would support drag & drop (copy/move) to folders/buttons in favorites toolbars and to folders in favorites items (tree view),
probably more/most people would stop using a dual panel.

I don't think so, dual panel system is the most important thing for most alternative file managers (incl. FC). And -if they'd stop using dual panel, then they wouldn't need any key to toggle single/dual panel.

Anyway, please talk about the keyboard shortcuts, Marek will decide which shortcuts will be used by default.

So...

F11/F12 keys are not so often used now, so I'd change them, also F9, F10 looks free, so we could use these for: toggle fullscreen, single/dual panel, settings, toggle views...

More suggestions for these keys? Marek, would you change the functions for F8-F12? At least F8 is danger and F9-F10 are free.

Wow, the reassigned shortcuts are wonderful! viewtopic.php?f=6&t=775&start=60#p13254
Thanks so much, Marek!

Here's another suggestion for a keyboard shortcut change.
"Go to root folder" -- change from Ctrl+Home to Ctrl+Backspace.

Reason: "Go to parent folder" is Backspace, so Ctrl+Backspace is a natural modification.

I acknowledge that Ctrl+Home is used in some File Manager programs, but I think the suggested change is more natural or intuitive.

Don't use root very much because all my important folders are on tabs, but for me "backspace" always has to do with going back.
So Crtl & home for me is more intuitive to switch to root (home) folder.

That makes sense too, ralfso. On the other hand, "Backspace" is one level back and Ctrl+Backspace is all levels back. Maybe I just need to change my concept of the root to a kind of home, not a higher level of going back. I'll give it a try :^)

I agree with Scott_Y, I have changed some shortcuts intuitively and Ctrl+Backspace is the best shortcut for "Root" IMHO. However, I'm using another way to go to root - since I can't always use my personal shortcuts - holding Backspace. Since the new feature - go up to Computer/Desktop has been added, this way can't be used, so Ctrl+Backspace would be very useful.

Comments for the changes in 598. First thanks for all the changes, it's much better now. However I'd change few shortcuts...

F8 - is unassigned? Why? I suggest "New text file" again
F9 - toggles between list view and details, I suggest to add thumbnails view

Ctrl+Shift+T - "Open lastly closed tab" > I'd change the shortcut to Alt+Z, or Ctrl+Shift+Z, since Ctrl+Z is the global undo shortcut, perhaps even Ctrl+Z might be used, if it will be merged with the global UNDO feature in the future.

Thanks for the support in favor of Ctrl+Backspace, Dreamer.

Ctrl+Shift+T is the shortcut to open the last closed tab in Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Opera -- so that is a natural model to follow in FC as well.
I think that if Ctrl+Shift+Z is added in the future it could undo file operations such as rename and delete, while Ctrl+Shift+T could undo tabs (an interface operation).

Hm.. in Avant Browser (tri-core web browser) Ctrl+Shift+Z is used. Perhaps 2 shortcuts might be added, as for Search. Of course this one is not so important, since it's configurable.

We could write to Avant and ask them to conform to the "standard"!
(Heh, just kidding!)

Or we could determine it by percent of browser market share...

I don't care about standards, if some shortcut is a standard, then it should be used in FC too, but I'll be using most intuitive shortcut for me.

BTW Ctrl+Z or (Ctrl+Shift+Z) is used for UNDO in more programs than Ctrl+Shift+T, for example, in most text editors, image viewers and editors and video editors, incl. MS Wordpad, Notepad, MS Paint, MS Windows Movie Maker...

Clearly what's intuitive depends on one's perspective: is this seen as primarily a tab operation (variation of Ctrl+T) or an undo operation (extension of Ctrl+Z)? Could go either way. Similar to what we discussed above: is Go to Root going "home" or going "back"? Fortunately it's customizeable :)

F9 - toggles between list view and details, I suggest to add thumbnails view
You could expand the standard with the "ToggleViews" line in the freecommander.ini viewtopic.php?f=10&t=213&p=440&hilit=toggleviews#p440.
In the XE you should use ToggleViews=2,3,5 for list, details and thumbnails.

Thanks, but I think this should be a bit more user friendly, most users will never read the forum or changelog, or/and don't speak English.

With the F9/F10/F11 hotkeys it's easy to switch several options, which would be useful for "image viewer layout" - thumbnails, single panel view and fullscreen.

I suggest this option as default value:

ToggleViews=2,3,5

Users who don't use one of these views often, could remove that one view manually.

I suggest to add this for the official preview version.
