834 - F3 and Esc causing that FC window lose focus

#1 Post by Dreamer » 10.12.2020, 00:07

Sometime after F3 png and Esc FC window lose focus, I had this one multiple times.

To reproduce try my settings, auto view for folder "Help*" - thumbnails view, F3 and Esc multiple times, for about 1 sec.

Focus is fixed after few seconds, possibly after moving cursor, it's quite strange.

I can reproduce this bug in 835:

To reproduce:
- use my settings
- go to folder with images with long names
- switch to thumbnails view, size 64
- focus any thumbnail
- wait until tooltip is shown
- press F3, wait 1-2 seconds and press Esc
= focus to main FC window is lost, title bar color is changed, e.g. arrow keys don't work
- wait until tooltip is closed
- focus to FC windows is back

Can you reproduce this bug? I found another issue, will reported it in the new topic, but here are alternate steps for this bug for 8411.

To reproduce:
- use my settings
- go to folder with images with long names
- switch to thumbnails view, size 64
- focus thumbnail 2
- move cursor only - to thumbnail 1
- wait until tooltip for file 1 is shown
- press F3, wait 1-2 seconds and press Esc
= focus to main FC window is lost, title bar color is changed, e.g. arrow keys don't work
- wait until tooltip is closed
- focus to FC windows is back

I think, you mean caption quick info and not the file info tooltip.
If yes, probably if you disable the quick info the problem is gone.

It's not the "Show files and folders tooltip" option, it's a tooltip which works also if "Show files and folders tooltip" option is disabled.

It's the tooltip which can be disabled in ini file only:

[Form]
ShowTruncatedCaptionHint=1

If I disable this option, I can't see the full file name, if it's not visible, so it's not a solution.

Or do you mean another option by "quick info"?

So if you use my settings and ShowTruncatedCaptionHint=1 , can you reproduce it? I can reproduce it easily.

OK, I found a workaround:
ThumbsShowCaptionQuickInfo=0 for disabling the quick info
Anyway, I can reproduce the same bug also in List and Details view, just focus one file, move a cursor over another file - which is not fully visible and then press F3 and Esc, FC is inactive for a while.

Not fixed in 848, this issue is quite annoying, I remember, that I used this ini option just for this issue, so if it can't be fixed, I'll be using this as workaround again:

Code: Select all

ShowTruncatedCaptionHint=0
FC lose focus for about 4 seconds for this issue, every time after F3+Esc.

Cannot confirm,

I can alternate between hitting escape and F3 as many times as I like and focus is not lost.

By the way, the entry

Code: Select all

ShowTruncatedCaptionHint=
is not in my .ini file.

Maybe you can remember, I did a fresh install of FC recently and applied all my settings by hand via the FC main GUI.

Could you explain why you need it? If i select a file in Thumbnails view, the complete name is visible.
If I hover with the mouse cursor over any file, the complete name is visible.

Try deleting the entry altogether.

Thanks for the reply.

That ini option is the "hidden" option, it's also here:

FreeCommander XE "not so obvious" settings - Page 2 - FreeCommander Forum

No need to add it to ini file to reproduce, you can just ignore it.

To reproduce you need to resize the FC window or the splitter, or/and the file with long name, so it's not fully visible, e.g.:

Code: Select all

Very very very very very very very very very very very very long filename test1.txt
Very very very very very very very very very very very very long filename test2.txt
Now focus the first file, click it, move the cursor over the second file, full name must be shown as "tooltip" (it's not a real tooltip, just the full name with border), then press F3 and Escape and try to press Down key to go to next file - it should not work for about 4 seconds.

I can reproduce it with 848 and Windows 10 20H2 64-bit, it could be different with other OS, tested also with default settings.

Sorry Dreamer, as previously posted, I cannot confirm.

After hitting ESC key I immediately use the cursor keys and navigation is possible without delay. It doesn't matter if I am in details view, list view or in thumbnail view.
There were over 1000 files in the folder where I preformed the test.

The pop-up info when hovering over files with the mouse cursor is not truncated. I compared the display of the pop-up info in FC with Windows Explorer and their behavior is exactly the same.

I hope you find the cause of the issue.

Make sure that "tooltip" (pop-up info when hovering over files with the mouse cursor) is shown when you press F3 and Escape.

Again, focus file 1, move a mouse cursor over the file 2, "popup info" must be shown, immediately press F3 and Escape, popup info should be still visible, but main FC window should be inactive, down arrow key should not for for 4 seconds.

Dear Dreamer,

I assure you, I have tested as you requested.

Maybe someone else can test as well.
