792 - Search in subfolders ignored by Duplicate file finder

#1 Post by Free4all » 14.02.2019, 08:30

FCXE v792 64-bit Donor on Win7

When the Duplicate file finder is enabled (GREAT feature, BTW), the "Search in subfolders" checkbox in the Location tab seems to get ignored.

Can you fix this please?

Confirmed partially in FCXE Donor v7921 (test build after 792) 64-bit on Win7 64-bit

"Search in subfolders" is not ignored.

But not completely clear how 'subfolder up to level' works now.

From help:
'Search in folders up to level
If this option is checked, it will not only be searched in the folders specified in the field "Folders", but also in their subfolders.
Number of levels
In the filed "Number of levels" can be defined how many sub levels should be searched in.
"Number of levels" = 0: the folders of all sub levels are searched in.'

So:
0 - no limit - works fine!

1 - I thought it should be 1 subfolder form the current folder
i.e. if we search for the same file that is present in C:\Transfer\1.txt and C:\Transfer\Subfolder\1.txt, both files should be found (with sub level set to 1)
but in that case only C:\Transfer\1.txt is found
if we set sub level to 2 - both files are found.

So, now 1 is equal to 'don't search in subfolders'

I'm working on this issue right now, and will report back soon.

Thanks Timon.

First, I'm not sure what was happening when I originally reported this bug. I could have sworn searching subfolders for duplicates was not working at all. But now when I perform more testing, it appears to be working. Hmmm...

Second, what Timon reports is interesting. Basically, FCXE, considers "level 1" to be the current folder, and "level 2" to be the folder beneath it. I agree that it's confusing. I'm not sure if there is currently any purpose in ever specifying "level 1". If not, then probably just want to add a +1 to the code when applying the value specified in that input field.
