Window Freeze

#1 Post by john_c » 02.01.2019, 20:10

Running Donor 64bit 790 in Win 7 Pro. During file transfer (within workstation, 1 to 3 Gb size) the Free Commander window and it's associated status window freezes, controls are unresponsive. These windows will typically fill with content from subsequent workstation operations. The window returns to normal responses after transfer is complete . File transfers are normal despite this display glitch. I have experienced this in several previous releases and have always hoped it would be taken care of in the next release. Now I realize maybe I should say something. This does not disrupt function but it is annoying and disrupts workflow. Scree captures are available:

How do you start the copy operation?
Have you tried to use "Use FreeCommander" option for copy/move operation? https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/S ... neral.html

From two pane window I use drag and drop, electing the "move" option from the menu

OK, elected "Use Free Commander" options. Program window and Time Remaining dialogs still freeze but program window does not fill with wrong content. Only single test. I will explore further tomorrow.

Correction: the frozen program window *does* eventually fill with wrong content. Apparently this only occurs after non-FreeCommander desktop activity takes place after the window freezes?

If you want to use drag&drop for copying big files you should try to deactivate the option "Use blocking transfer..." https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/DragDrop.html
The option "Use FreeCommander" for copy/move has no effect on drag&drop. This option has an effect when copying with F5.

Hm.. I didn't know about it, perhaps it could be added to the FAQ.

john_c - workaround for drag&drop can be using the splitter bar copy/move buttons, for these FC operations have effect, it's the same as using F5/F6 keys, another advantage is that you can use the Queue feature (no need to wait before you add more actions) and you can auto-minimize dialogs.

Hi,

I have problem too when I copy many files : After I validate the copy dialog, the window and, in the worst cases almost all the system, freezes. I get control back after FreeCommander has computed the list of files to copy.

Once I got freeze while it was copying : FreeCommander was asking me whether I want to replace a file in the copy but it was very difficult for me to answer because of the Freeze. Eventually I've shutdown windows!
I was copying with the queue at that time.

Please note that I've tried to disable the blocking transfer : No change.

I hope you'll be able to fix this.

Best regards,
E.G.

What about this, still the same?

Right, I've forgotten to write about that !

The options "Use FreeCommander" are all checked.

OK and it's freezing also if you use F5/F6 to copy/move, or only if using drag&drop?

Thank you for your quick answer!

I didn't use drag & drop, only F5 to copy

It's strange, how many files? While FC is freezing, can you use the main FC window, is it slow, or completely frozen?

Which version are you using, which OS, Windows?

Last time, it was more than 62K files.

When it freezes, I can't use FC window : Windows says "not responding" and the window goes blank.

I'm using Windows 10.
