xdoc2txt 2.16 converter not working for searching inside PDFs
xdoc2txt 2.16 converter not working for searching inside PDFs
Hey guys.
Running the "FreeCommander XE 2018 Build 775 64-bit donor" version and have downloaded and setup xdoc2txt Version 2.16 as described in the wiki here: https://freecommander.com/en/faq-search ... f-for-text
Sadly it doesnt find anything inside an test pdf. but it works on windows explorer, is this feature broken?
Here are my settings: and some pics: https://imgur.com/a/lQ9nWqt
Is this a known issue or what i am doing wrong?
Is the Version of xdoc2txt the issue?
PS.: Did not see any xdoc2txt proccess during search in task manager!?

Re: xdoc2txt 2.16 converter not working for searching inside PDFs
It is characters encoding on the html pages.
I have added this comment to the FAQ :
If you copy this text into the program via the clipboard, then re-enter the characters " using the keyboard.

Re: xdoc2txt 2.16 converter not working for searching inside PDFs
I have the same problem. This fix did not do it for me.
I am using FC 770a donor version and xdoc2txt 2.16.1 64bit
xdoc2txt works in command line mode.
Have xdoc2txt installed in subfolder of AppData FC folder.
I test on a pdf which in abobe i could find tekst 'profiel'
Used xdoc2txt in command line more to produce a .txt file of a .pdf file.
Searching with FC only found text in the .txt file and not in the .pdf file
I have double tripple and quadraple checked the converter settings and believe these are ok.
Re-entered quotes as suggested. Even copied line to notepad first and then to FC.
Is there a way to check if FC kicks off the xdoc2txt program? Is there a temp file in a folder somewhere?
Any suggestions on how to get this working are highly appreciated.

@rjut:
Had also issues with version >2 of xdoc2txt.
Currently running 1.52 without issues.
Please try the older version.

Re: xdoc2txt 2.16 converter not working for searching inside PDFs
@popy
As suggested installed v1.5.2. Same result
Noticed that FC makes temp files in the TEMP folder with same name as pdf file but with extension .txt.
The file size of these files is 0 bytes. When I open them in notepad these are empty, as expected.
If I run xdoc2txt from command line then I can create such a .txt file manually from the pdf and it constains readable text.
So it looks like the xdoc2txt converter is indeed executed by FC but returns empty result.

Found it!
My previous post made me look again at the parameter “%ConvertSourceFile%” >%ConvertTargetFile%.
Although it looked ok and I already retyped the quotes as suggested in the FAQ, I decided to delete the line completely and type in again manually. Now it works!
