773 - Renaming file on attached USB Android phone hangs FreeCommander

#1 Post by Free4all » 01.04.2018, 19:53

FreeCommander XE 773 64-bit donor
Windows 7 64-bit

When attaching an Android device (Samsung, if that matters) via USB, attempting to rename any files on the Android device via FreeCommander results in FreeCommander hanging.

The same operation in Windows Explorer works as expected.

Here it doesn't work, error dialog is shown instead.

773 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit. Custom and default settings.

Thanks for confirming the issue.

I don't receive an error dialog. Is the error you receive from FreeCommander, or from Windows? What does it say?

It works in Windows Explorer for you too, just not in FreeCommander, correct?

OK I just found, that only PNG files can't be renamed - in FC and even in Explorer - Rename context menu item is missing there.

In FC I have the error dialog in this form: "FreeCommander - Operation failed ::{00D04FE0-1069 ... filename.png".

Other files, JPG, MP3, MP4 (and folders) can be renamed without any problems in FC and Explorer.

It's really weird.

At least for me, it always fails. I'm not sure if that's a good thing though.

I tested it in 774, still the same, PNG file can't be renamed. "Operation failed ::{00D04FE0-1069 ... filename.png" - I tried to rename PNG file to JPG and JPG file to PNG, same result / error.

When I tried to rename JPG file, it works the first time, but when I try to rename it back, it doesn't work "The system cannot find the file specified C:\Users\Username\filename.jpg" - when I refresh view manually, renaming works good.

As I said, I have the same problem with PNG files also in Explorer, so perhaps these files are blocked somehow...

Which error do you have? Have you tried JPG and PNG files?

BTW My smartphone is Samsung too.

I finally have sent in my Samsung device for repairs (unrelated to this FreeCommander issue).

(Side note: What a nightmare dealing with Samsung. Ugh.)

They say it can take up to 20 days for the repair, plus shipping time. So it'll be a little while until I receive my device back.
