Compare files does not work

#1 Post by pduus » 11.08.2015, 09:38

Thanks for solving my other bug -now I think I have another. When comparing files a window pops up saying to set compare program in settings. I have done that, see attached picture.

UPDATE: FC XE version 694 on Windows 7 64 bit. Also reproducible with default settings.

Define right filter for file types you want compare, e.g.: *.txt;*.ini

Okay I missed the point of the first column, sorry. Not a bug then.

Hi, thanks for your hint.

Since I had the same problem, I suggest that the filter will have the default value *.*
So that user will understand what it exactly is, and will change in case of need (but most of users will want only one file comparator for all files).

I also suggest to pre-fill the last field (target file extension), because i still don't understand what it is. It's automatically filled with .txt but only after the window is closed.

Previously i thought that it's not possible to compare two files with different extension, as:
- example.txt and example.txt.bak

But only .txt

Do you know such program, I think many user would like to know too.

The last column should be not visible - is irrelevant, it is a bug.

The help file desribe exactly what you searched for (* in the filter column): http://www.freecommander.com/fchelpxe/e ... Files.html

Thanks Marek.
(I said "most of users", not "all users". And of course the default value (*, or *.*) should be modifiable for those who have different needs.
Anyway I solved the problem and I am happy now  - I use Kdiff3 for everything, by the way).
