Copy, delete, move, new folder extreme laggy

#1 Post by bege » 13.02.2020, 22:40

Hi,
this issue has been reported often and over a long period. On my computer it is for several months, meanwhile with Windows 10 but it was the case already with Windows 7. So it is neither an issue only of the current FC nor the current system.
Currently FC 813 64-bit, Windows 10 Professional 64 bit Version 10.0.18363

If I copy, move or delete an even small file or folder or create a new folder FC freezes for up to 30 sec. after the process. This is if I set use FC for these processes. If use Windows it is a bit faster, up to 20 sec. Windows Explorer does it all within a second.

If I test as recommended with /N /NewIni=%FcAppDataPath%\TestSettings\FreeCommander.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English FC is much faster.

So my question is which next steps Marek recommends to test what may slow down FC so much. Thank you very much.

In order to determine if it is related to FC, or to other factors, i.e. OS settings, etc. we need detailed steps of what you did, so we can try to reproduce the behavior.

Additional information is always helpful, such as FC settings, for views, plugins etc. but also how many tabs are opened in each panel window etc. Are the files you are working with on a local, external or network drive?

Posting a screen shot can also be of great help. Just be aware not to disclose personal information in your screen shots.

Best regards

Try to deactivate for testing your AV (AntiVirus) software.

Thank you very much for your answers.
As I wrote starting FC with /N /NewIni:... solves the problem, so it seems to be an issue of the FC settings, not an issue of the system or AV-software. When the problem occurs you see in my first post.

I only work with local files.
The number of open tabs has no influence on the behavior.

Here you find two ini-files.
FreeCommander.views.ini
(377 Bytes) Downloaded 398 times
FreeCommander.ini
(53.76 KiB) Downloaded 406 times
Thanks again.

Your config work normally for me, no delay.

The good news is, that if I start FC with a new profile it is as fast as Windows Explorer.
The bad news is, that also the new profile becomes extremely laggy as soon as I copy my FreeCommander.ini to the TestSettings folder.

Have you tried the operations without visible tree panels?
I'm still curious whether you are using some AV?

After 4 hours of testing I found out that FC is only laggy with folder trees visible, but only with these two settings, each one alone, both together make it even worse:

TreeShowLinkToFolder=1
TreeShowOverlayIcons=1

Without these settings there's almost no difference between a new and a configured profile and between using Windows or FC process for file/folder actions.
Windows Explorer shows the overlay icons for hardlinks and junctions without any delay. Is it possible to rewrite these options in FC to have no delay?

I am using the standard Windows Defender as AV program. If it is deactivated nothing changes. The only process that uses a lot CPU during the delay is FC.
