Set timestamp as in target folder -option for name only?

I use attribute/timestamp a lot to set timestamp of multiple files from target files in another folder. My problem is that the source and target files have same names but different extensions. I convert a lot of camera video files from .3gp to .mp4 format. But I want to keep the date/time of the converted files same because thats the date the video was shot. Right now FCX allows setting timestamp as in target folder for files with full matches (name+extension). I would very much like the option to ignore extension and set by name field only. I mean an "option" so both matching by name only and name+extension would be available. Hope this is not too much of a problem to implement. Thanks for your attention.
