Sort columns do not respond to clicking
Sort columns do not respond to clicking
Hi,
I'd like to report something quite strange: sometimes, when I click one of the column labels (Name, Size Auto, Modified, Type, etc.), nothing happens. I'm expecting the view to be sorted according to the column I've just clicked.
My interface configuration is:
* left panel with treeview and file list in detailed view
* right panel in detailed view and with no tree view.
I can't identify the exact circumstances but switching to list view (Ctrl+F1) then back to detailed view (Ctrl+F2) seems (which I've discovered while writing this post) to solve the problem in version 616.
The problem isn't new but in previous versions (up to 613), I had noticed it only on the right hand side panel.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
I also notice this problem fairly regularly. I am on WinXP SP3, FreeCommander XE v609. I see this when I have had network sessions or when I am out of standby and back to standby a few times and the way to recover is to change to list view and then back to detailed view to enable the sort column as you mention it. Otherwise, clicking on any column has no effect and stays as is.
I am not sure of the root cause, but acknowledging that the problem does indeed exist.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
I confirm the same behavior, but have not detected a pattern or root cause. I get sorting to work again by changing the column profile.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
Have had same problem with intermittent problems sorting. First time I'd noticed was when clicking on the Modified column.
I've been using FreeCommander for several years and it just keeps getting better. I stopped even looking at other file managers because many of their "latest and greatest" features are one's that were built into FreeCommander from the beginning. I wish I had a 10th of the programming skill it takes to put something this sophisticated together.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
In my experience, this problem will happen after changing user account or after returning from sleep mode.
In other case, this sometimes happened but it is very difficult to reproduce this problem.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
This is exactly my case: I rarely shutdown the system completely as I usually put it in hibernate instead of shutting it down.etc. wrote:In my experience, this problem will happen after changing user account or after returning from sleep mode.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
I discovered my problem. I had selected the setting for View->File/folderlist->"Sort folders always by name". Once I unchecked it everything worked fine. I don't suppose that clicking on the headings should override the default?
Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
I can confirm this is still not working for beta build 633. Always happens after waking up from hibernation mode. Click on column bar to sort the files doesn't work. It's kinda annoying. I only can resolve this by restarting FC or by going to the file/folderlist sorting config and checking/unchecking an option.
This should actually be easy to fix, would be very nice, because it's the only thing really annoying at the moment with FC, otherwise a very good product/project! thanks.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
I confirm this is still an issue (after beta). I always hibernate and that seems to be when the issue occurs. If I restart FreeCommander, column sorting works again.
Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
i discovered a workaround to this bug:
right click on any column header but "Name" and choose a different sorting column in "Sort By" or do this by shortcut eg. CTRL+F4, CTRL+F5 , but column bar/headers still don't work..

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
Sometimes it seems to be confused: in tools > settings> View > file/folder list > sorting - the "sort folders always by name" is not checked - but Free commander thinks it is.
Check it, save the settings, uncheck it and save again. This clears the "hidden" setting & column sorting is re-enabled.

Re: Sort columns do not respond to clicking
I also have this column-sort issue after recovering from sleep (caused by closing my laptop). Glad to see that there may be an alternative to the shutdown and restart of FC I currently do.
