FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
FC is locking my flash drive from being able to "Eject Safely".
Steps:
Plug in flash drive (drive Z)
Open Z: via the drive bar.
Copy a file.
Right-click on the drive in the drive bar and bring up the standard context menu.
close the tab.
Now try to eject.
I can confirm that no other tabs are open that use that drive, and I can confirm that no other FC dialogues are open.
I know it is locked by FC, becuase I have Unlocker.
If I close FC then I can eject just fine.
FC 612 on Windows 7 x64.

confirmed (for all XE versions I've tried so far)

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
Let me say that it seems intermittent. I tried it on a different drive and didn't have any problem. But the one I had a problem with was brand new out of the package, and it was after all the drivers were loaded for it.

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
I didn't do any testing.
I've got three different USB-sticks and none does eject safely as long as there is FCXE showing the stick in a tab.
I close the tab and can eject safely.
WindowsExplorer can eject safely even if folders are opened and FCXE cannot - that was my concern.

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
My issue was that it would not eject even when the drive was NOT showing in any tab.
However, I think you are right, FC should be able to know when a drive is missing and unlock it accordingly.

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
I haven't experienced your problem, BGM. I wonder if something else is going on in the background, not related to FC (although what you reported in your OP does point to FC).BGM wrote:My issue was that it would not eject even when the drive was NOT showing in any tab.
My experience is like alf5000 -- if the drive is open in an FC tab, it can't be ejected. But after the tab has been closed, then it can be ejected.
It would be very nice if FC could do like WE.alf5000 wrote:WindowsExplorer can eject safely even if folders are opened and FCXE cannot - that was my concern.
The drive isn't missing, it is still there. What we would like FC to do is not have an exclusive lock on it.BGM wrote:However, I think you are right, FC should be able to know when a drive is missing and unlock it accordingly.

FCXE.624 still makes it impossible to eject thumdrive if opened in an FCXE-tabScott_Y wrote:My experience is like alf5000 -- if the drive is open in an FC tab, it can't be ejected. Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
What happens if you just physically remove the locked drive?
Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
1) you risk loss of data (not highly likely, though)jasontaylor7 wrote:What happens if you just physically remove the locked drive?
2) Win7 somehow 'notices' unsafe ejecting. after doing it several times it prompts you to do some data-check on your stick. This lasts for quite a few minutes and that's annoying.
So once again: FCXE should not prevent safe ejecting of usb devices.

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
For me it is with FCXE 625 the same as alf5000, when the USB stick is open in an FCXE tab, it can't be ejected. After closing the tab, I can eject the stick.
I find the working perfect, maybe an extra button for drive eject...??, not needed, but maybe logic.

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
Solved for the release 626.
Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
Fixed in 626, however...
...when I use right click on USB drive > "Safely remove", it works, but when I right click on [..] item on USB drive > "Safely remove" - it doesn't work, this one should work too IMO.

626 you are my hero for addressing this problem since I often need it
@Dreamer: confirmed (I very rarely use that option, though)

Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
I never used that option before, but now, since we can remove drive safely in FC, I'd use it, it's the most intuitive way of all.
Re: FC Locks Drive - Can't Eject Safely
Unfortunatelly I can not find out what will be send to the program, when the item is clicked.right click on [..] item on USB drive
