Good show, Marek! Thanks for the hard work! There is absolutely nothing else like FreeCommander out there! FreeCommander beats TotalCommander all to pieces!

The Favourites Panel is a really nifty feature. At the first use of it, here are my requests for functionality:
If I have the panel open (which I always will, now!), I should be able to:

• -drag-n-drop folders into Favourites - we should be able to drag a folder from the main panels right into a favourites category folder.
  -F2 to rename the selected favourites object (right now, F2 still acts to rename in the main folder panel)
  -Pull in any folder icons from the real folder instead of using the hearts-folder all the time - reason for this is, that I use icons for my folders because they give me instant recognitiion of that item without my having to read the folder's actual name.
  -perhaps, hovering over the favourites object might display the path?

Further on:
It seems that this new favorites have replaced the old folder-favorites.
The section of the old favorites [FcFavoriteFolders_Active] are still present in freecommander.ini.
The new favorites are stored in FreeCommander.fav.xml.
Is there a easy way to "import" the old favorites to the new ones?
(copy from freecommander.ini to FreeCommander.fav.xml isn't possible because of different file-formats)

Sorry, I have no import function.

@ralfso, We are in beta, anyway - creating an import function for an outdated configuration means just plain old work for our Marek. The time spent in the functionality would only be good for just this once. Time can be spent more profitably, you know!

Hi BGM,

I think you know my posting-style, I don't wanted to have an real import function.
The word "import" wasn't exactly what I meant.

I wanted to ask maybe for a "trick" to "copy" the old favourites to the new ones because file format for the related settings has changed from ini to xml.
No matter if there is no copy-way, so I'll spend the 5 minutes to rebuild them in the new favourites.

ralfso, - my apologies, I didn't mean that as a rebuff - I was really writing for anybody who might happen upon the post. I lost mine too, however, and instead of messing around with the text files, I just recreated the favourites list all together. Honestly, I think we're all on the level here.

now I also recreated my favourites list and added some new with the categories feature (very useful).

The only thing I missed in addition to your suggestions was:

• Separators to make a kind of optical distance in the main favourites list

Also I notice that in the tree, all the categories seem to have the requirement that they be children of the "Favorite items" folder. Is it possible to have that "root" hidden? The only thing it does in the tree panel is take up space with the indentation.

Another thing I notice is that, in the tree panel, when you drag the items to rearrange them, you don't get the "placing line" like you do in Firefox and some other trees. I think folks are used to seeing and understanding that. Whilst dragging the item(s), you get a line with a little arrow attached to it that indicates the new location where you plan to move the item(s). Does that make sense?

Can we set custom icons to the favourites category folders?

This favourites tree is great! I like to work with all of my options in front of me. Thus, I put all the commands I regularly use (or think I'll use - there are so many!) as buttons on toolbars. I turn on all the toolbars and panels I can find. Having the favourites panel always visible is a great boon for me. The only time I ever use Windows Explorer any more is when I have to copy a new set of FCXE application files over the old ones! The only panel I don't keep open all the time is the quickview, because it doesn't render fast enough for me.

Selecting a favorite now automatically opens a tab, in each panel. For those of us who don't use tabs, can this be made optional?

Yes, I noticed that too. By default, when I open a folder that I designated in my favourites toolbar, it opens in the current tab instead of opening a new one. I was surprised when the Favourites opened in a new tab, instead.

What about folders opening in a new tab by default and then in the current tab if "shift" is held when the command is issued? This could apply to Favourites as well as any other command where opening tabs is used (Marek has already proved that he can do anything!).

My preference would be the opposite: by default open in the current tab or, for those of us who don't use tabs at all, replace the current folder as it used to be. If "shift" is held down, open a (new) tab.

Try Alt + F or "Favorites -> Favorites tree".
That should do it for you.
