The search function (Alt+F7) of FreeCommander suffers from performance issues. I have long used a similar product (ExplorerPlus from Novatix) that I am moving away from in favor of FreeCommander, because I like FreeCommander better in general. However, their search is an order of magnitude faster than FreeCommander when one invokes a column sort. I suspect that FreeCommander rereads the entire directory tree instead of caching any information.
Example: I did a search for everything on a file tree with 18,000 files. The initial search time was comparable between the two programs (perhaps 2 minutes) but then I clicked on a column heading to sort by size. FreeCommander took the same time--about 2 minutes. ExplorerPlus's find utility (FastFind) took about 2 seconds.
