UTF8 Support

#1 Post by caminostro » 03.08.2010, 11:52

Hi,

FreeCommander is an excellent alternative to commercial commanders, and it's free.

There is a little problem. It doesn't support non-ASCII characters. If a file name or folder name consists of characters not found in English, such as those in French, German, Spanish, Russian or Asian and Middle Eastern languages, FreeCommander will simply have nothing to do with them. It won't copy, move, delete, rename, open, or execute them, and the user has to use Windows Explorer for these files.

Could you please add support for non-English characters?

As an example, download the file test.zip from the following address, unzip it, and try to manipulate the files in FreeCommander:

Hi!
I have the same problem.

Please try to open this archive http://www.mediafire.com/?pfgzt60sdb87s20 with FreeCommander and look at the filenames
Die Weide Und Der Fluß.mp3
02 溝口 ゆうま - 絶叫クールマッチ.ogg
Детские песни.plc
Also FreeCommander uses DOS-names
For example,
it shows
DIEWEI~1
for
Die Weide Und Der Fluß
and
02-OGG~1
for
02 溝口 ゆうま - 絶叫クールマッチ
Sorry for my English
