I've been using FAR manager for ~10-12 years now and finally decided to try similar programs without FAR's flaws.
I installed last version of FreeCommander, opened a zip archive, tried to edit and save a text file in it.
looks like I can't save the file inside archive. FAR manager can do that, so I expected other similar tools to do the same.
I don't know if this is a bug or this feature is simply not implemented yet.
otherwise FreeCommander looks nice. it does not have FAR's fundamental flaw - locking folders on "open" operation.
thanks, guys.
edit files in archive - feature request?
Re: edit files in archive - feature request?
Yes, I think this would be considered a feature request, you can use Forum Search to see if it is already listed in Feature Requests.
Meanwhile, as a workaround- you can open and edit that file, "Save As" with same name as the original document, and drag that edited copy back into the archive to replace the original archived document.
Just two very easy extra steps to update the archive, not so bad.

Re: edit files in archive - feature request?
can someone move this topic to "Feature requests" subforum, please?
looks like a very convenient feature. many other similar programs do that - FAR manager, muCommander, ...
