file type program to call up a program when a file is clicke

#1 Post by Karel Rei » 17.11.2009, 20:13

Is there anyone working on a little program so that when you click on
file in Portable FreeCommander it calls up the program - also Portable and in the same USP disk or whatever -
it calls up the program that reads the file.
I know there is no registry - but perhaps a little program in Commander
that recognizes say 3 or 4 file extensions
and calls up a program associated with those extensions
and runs it with the file.
Ideally these 3 or 4 types would be chosen by the user and the
related programs also.
The first example I have in mind would be pdf files - assiciated
Probably with PDF XChange.
Also a text file editor such as Portable Notepad++
and a Media program such as Portable Media Player Classic.

Maybe there is someone out there who can do this?????

I think that freecommander should integrate this option, like Xenon (Portable Apps).
It would be fantastic.

Besides, someone tried to make it with cofee??
Associations work outside freecommander... but inside the program not!
I tried it with a PDF associating it with Sumatra.

If it doesn't work with Free Commander
will it work with SE-Explorer Portable?

But I forget - I can't even make it associate
When I click on a file with an extension -
its supposed to come up and ask me
what program to associate with
but it doesn't do that -
ie if I click or double click on a pdf file
Adoobe comes right up.

i`ve tried with many archive types... but it doesn't work at all.
With Se-Explorer doesn't work neither :S

Somebody tried Xenon?? the only thing about that program is that you can make the internal associations...

It works but you have to take a few more steps for files managers other than windows's:
  • 1. right click the coffee bean icon and choose Preferences>Monitored Window Configuration or press Alt+Win+W hotkey.
    2. hold Shift+Win and left click the window's title bar (FC's)
    3. click OK
    4. restart Coffee
You can do all of the above by manual editing of Coffee's .ini file:
  • - add "managedWindows=ahk_class TfcForm" without the quotes under [configuration] section

Hope it helps!
